I know it sounds silly, but if you think about it, growing up I was constantly bombarded with phrases like, “Don’t be such a girl!” and “Be a man!” So, it now leads me to believe that other men teach us to somehow fear our more feminine aspects. Why?
A great example was given to me, there’s usually no issue with a girl who wants to “cross the lines” and play baseball or soccer with the boys, but heaven help the little boy who wants to go play wth the girls, right? We are so stuck in these 50’s era gender roles, but that all they are roles, a made up persona that we act out. It’s time to wake up and smell the 21st century and stop facilitating these facades we spend our lives pretending to believe. What are we so afraid of?
